Roorkee Water Conclave 2020 held at IIT Roorkee

On the second day of Roorkee Water Conclave-2020 (RWC) held at IIT Roorkee, experts held views on climate change, water management, ways of dealing with floods and droughts, etc. in different sessions. Along with this, the participants also visited the exhibition of the works of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) set up at the Institute’s Multi Activity Center under the Namami Gange program.

In collaboration with IIT Roorkee and National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) Roorkee, a three-day Roorkee Water Conclave is being organized on the theme ‘Climate Change in the context of Hydrology’. On the second day of the conclave, the Keynote speaker delivered themed lectures as part of a plenary session at the Multi Activity Center at IIT Roorkee on Thursday.

Pro. Nicola emphasized that keeping in mind the eco-system, the species living and developing in the water should not be threatened in future. K. Vora gave information about various schemes being run by the Government of India in the field of water management. Apart from these, Prof. Rao S. Govindadaraju, Prof. Yutaka, Prof. Raghu, Prof. Pete Lens, Prof. Sunil K. Sinha, Dr. Malini Sarkar, Dr. AK Sikka etc. also gave lectures. In the technical session, research papers on topics such as ground water management, floods and its management, river dynamic and hydraulic structure, droughts and its management were presented.

The figures revealed in Roorkee Water Conclave – 2020 held at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee were shocking. A research showed that 500 liters of water is used to produce one kg of paddy in China. In contrast, two thousand liters of water i.e four times more water is being used to produce the same quantity of paddy in India.

IIT Roorkee and National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) Roorkee are jointly organizing a three-day Roorkee Water Conclave at IIT Roorkee.
