Chinese telescope picks up mysterious signal from deep space
Chinese astronomers are getting mysterious signals from the depths of space. In fact, Chinese astronomers are said to get signals such as Fast Radio Bursts (FRB) for which it is believed that it is coming from a distance of 3 billion kms Earth.
According to the researcher at the National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the scientists tested these signals through the 500-meter Archer Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST). At the same time, they are carefully examining it.
FRBs are known as the brightest blasts in the Universe. They are called fast because they are short lived, in other words they last for milliseconds. But the exact reason for their origin is not known. Researchers point out, “Repeated discovery of such sounds will reveal the origin and physical causes of FRBs.”
Chinese scientists have installed a highly sensitive FRB on a 19-beam receiver on the giant telescope, and used it to observe an FRB source named FRB121102, which was first discovered by the Arecibo Observatory in 2015.
Over 100 Bursts from FRB121102 recorded from last August to early September are the highest ever.
In China it is given the FAST nickname because Tianyan is a radio telescope which has a 500 meter diameter dish. It is the world’s largest filled-aperture radio telescope and the second largest single dish aperture. In the first year 2018, China launched a total of 39 rockets, which was the highest number of rockets compared to other countries.
