Geminid Meteor shower 2023 to peak on December 14

This time the annual astronomical event of Geminids Meteor Shower will peak on Thursday night, 14th December, which will see more than 120 meteor showers in an hour. This phenomenon will be visible in all the countries located in the Northern Hemisphere including India from Thursday night till dawn.

‘3200 Phaethon’ revolves around the Sun in 524 days. It passes between the Sun and Mercury. While passing close to the Earth, it leaves a lot of dust particles and meteors on the path of the Earth.

When the Earth passes through meteors, these meteors burn up after colliding with the Earth’s atmosphere and a scene like fireworks is seen. This meteor shower will be at its peak on 14 December.

Geminid meteors appear to come from the Gemini constellation, which is why their name has been associated with the Geminids. Therefore, meteor showers will be visible in all directions of the Gemini constellation.
