Light rains expected in these regions of Kumaun

There is a possibility of light rain in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand on Saturday. Yellow alert of rain has been issued by the Meteorological Department in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Nainital and Champawat. According to the Meteorological Center, there may be rain with thunder and lightning in the mountainous areas. However, the weather is expected to remain dry in the plains.

8 percent less than normal rain in August

Uttarakhand received the least rainfall in August after ten years. The state received eight per cent less rainfall than normal during the month. Meteorologists say, a strong system did not form in the Bay of Bengal. Due to this there was less rainfall in the state.

This year the monsoon arrived in Uttarakhand with a delay of five days. However, there was heavy rain in some districts of the state. Whereas, in some districts the rainfall figures were less than normal. Meteorologists say that this year there has been more rain with less snowfall in the hilly areas of the state. August this year received 353.9 mm of rain, which is eight per cent less than normal.

Bikram Singh, Director of the Meteorological Center, said that the active El Nino is also being said to be the reason for less rainfall in August. Whenever El Nino is active, the monsoon weakens in India.
