Uttarakhand government releases funds for quarantine centers after HC intervention

The Uttarakhand government, which came into action following the High Court’s rebuke, has released a sum of Rs 49 crore for the maintenance, sanitization and other facilities of quarantine centers in rural areas.

Under the funds released by the government, three crore rupees have been released to Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Pauri and Almora. Apart from this, Rs 2 crore each has been released to the remaining six districts. In all, 33 crore rupees have been released to the District Magistrates. Apart from this, Rs 16 crore has been released separately to the Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare.

Earlier, Rs. 5 crore was released to all the 13 districts and Rs. 20 crore was released to the Department of Medical Education. The government has now released Rs 20 crore to the Water Institute and Rs 30 crore to the Public Works Department to repair drinking water schemes.

The government has taken this step following the rebuke of the High Court. The High Court had expressed displeasure over the plight of quarantine centers in rural areas and asked the government to release the budget to village heads. The court had issued this order based on the report of the District Legal Authority and also asked the government to file an amendment in two weeks.
