ICMR planning to launch Covdid-19 vaccine Covaxin on August 15

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) plans to bring the corona vaccine by 15 August. ICMR DG Balaram Bhargava has written a letter to Bharat Biotech asking them to work on the trial of Corona’s drug at a faster pace so that the results reach by August 15.

Covaxin recently underwent clinical trial. It is written in the letter- ‘This is the first indigenous vaccine being developed by India and is one of the topmost level of the Government’.  The government too has an eye on it and it has to be taken forward on a priority basis. The vaccine has been prepared by the isolated strain of SARS Cov-2. Pune ICMR and BBIL jointly prepared it for clinical trial.

In a letter to all 12 institutions, the ICMR stated that it is planned to launch the vaccine for public health use by 15 August after the completion of all clinical trials. Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) is working fast to meet the target. However the final result will depend on the cooperation of all clinical trial institutions involved in this project.

12 institutes selected for clinical trial

At the same time, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has selected 12 institutes for clinical trials of the country’s first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine, one of which is the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital in Odisha. An official gave this information on Thursday. ICMR says the government plans to launch it by 15 August.

An official of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, said that the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital has been selected for India’s first human clinical trial of corona virus vaccine.

ICMR has developed indigenous Covid-19 vaccine in association with Bharat Biotech International Limited. Apart from IMS & SUM Hospitals, other institutes selected for clinical trials here are in Visakhapatnam, Rohtak, New Delhi, Patna, Belgaum (Karnataka), Nagpur, Gorakhpur, Kattankulatur (Tamil Nadu), Hyderabad, Arya Nagar, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and in Goa.

Permission for human testing has been received

Covaxin Vaccine has been approved for human trials in July. In the month of July, human trials will be done in the whole country. This drug has been reported to have significantly better results in the pre-clinical stage. Based on the results of this stage, the company has been allowed to conduct human trials of Covaxin. If the trial of covaxin is successful during human trials, it will become easier to deal with the greater threat of corona.
