Rains cause crop loss in Pithoragrah

Heavy rains have caused havoc in Bangapani Chhoribagarh in Pithoragarh district on Wednesday night. Due to heavy rains, the rivulet coming from Jarajibali was in spate and the route changed and started flowing in the fields. The tehsil building under construction and the drain flowing near the present tehsil office swept away the crops of several fields into the Gori Ganga river. Three houses narrowly survived. Family members went out of the house and spent the night. Due to the diversion of the drain, a deep moat has been created between the farms and the village in Chhoribagarh. There is a sense of panic in the village.

Chhoribagarh has been the largest flat land in the Gori river valley. A large chunk of the land was washed away by the Gori river in the 2013 disaster. The Gori river wreaked havoc in 2016 too. The rain that fell on the remaining land on Wednesday night ravaged everything. Assesment team is on the spot. MLA Harish Dhami has left for the area. The administration has not yet confirmed the cloudburst. The region received 70 mm of rain at night.

Rivers of the district are in spate

The Gori River, the Gosi River and the Sera River are in spate. Five days ago, there was a cloudburst in the area under the Bangapani Tehsil area. Ten roads including the Jauljibi-Bangapani-Munsiyari road, Nanchani-Bansbagad, Didihat-Dunakot, are closed due to overflowing road in Chhoribagarh. The river Kali is flowing at 888.45 m in Dharchula. The warning lavel here is 889 meters. On Wednesday night also there was rain in the Dharchula, Bangapani, Munsiyari and Didihat tehsils. The weather remained dry in Pithoragarh, Berinag and Gangolihat.
