Real Madrid wins La Liga 2019/20

Real Madrid managed to win the Spanish Football Championship La Liga for the first time in the last 3 years and the 34th overall title after beating Villarreal 2–1  on Thursday. Real Madrid continued their winning streak after the league’s comeback and ensured a trophy to their name, taking a seven point lead over their closest rival Barcelona. Barcelona, ​​ranked number two, lost to Osasuna at the Camp Nou Stadium.

Karim Benzema (29th and 77th minute) scored two goals as Real Madrid registered their tenth consecutive win in the league. The league was stalled for 3 months due to Corona virus and after its return Real Madrid are the only team to win all their matches. Real Madrid were 2 points behind when the league started.

Zidane, who won the Champions League and World Cup as a player, said, “This is one of the best days of my professional life. One more title. I wanted us to celebrate this with our fans but I am sure that they will be happy to see their team win the title.”

It is also Real Madrid’s first league title after their star player Cristiano Ronaldo joined Yuventus 2 seasons ago. With this win, they has 86 points while Barcelona has 79 points. Barcelona needed to register a win to maintain their title hopes and pray for Real Madrid’s defeat but that did not happen. Osasuna made a big upset by defeating Barcelona 2–1 on their ground.
