US President claims Qasem Soleimani was plotting attack as far as New Delhi
The tension between the US and Iran has once again escalated. America has killed the powerful military general Qasem Soleimani of Iran. America attacked and killed Iranian general with a drone. Now Iran has openly warned the US that it will avenge the death of General Soleimani. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has said that Soleimani has been eliminated to end the war with Iran. The US President claimed that Soleimani was involved in the conspiracy of terrorist attack against India.
Soleimani had been leading Iran’s Quds Force since 1998. This special unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) conducts secret operations abroad and reports directly to the country’s highest leader Ali Khamenei. Soleimani was killed on Thursday night amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following an attack by hundreds of protesters at the US embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday night.
Khamenei’s stance
On the other hand, Khamenei said that “the most ferocious people on earth” killed the honorable commander who fought courageously against the evils and dacoits of the world.” Khamenei said, “His mission will not stop with his death, but the criminals who have stained their hands with the blood of General Soleimani and other martyrs on Thursday night must wait for them to bear the brunt of a tremendous revenge.” Khamenei said that the success of the ongoing battle and the ultimate victory will make the lives of murderers and criminals worse.
Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said, Soleimani had made the deaths of innocent people his sick passion and had carried out terrorist activities in New Delhi and London. Trump, in his statement, defended the move under which the top 7 military officers of Iran, including Soleimani, were killed in Baghdad. Trump said, “Today, we remember those suffering from Soleimani’s atrocities and give us comfort that the secret of his terror is over now.”
Iran connection to attack in Delhi
Although Trump did not explain anything about Soleimani’s attack in India, it is believed that he was recalling the 2012 incident in New Delhi in which the wife of an Israeli diplomat was targeted. In that incident, a woman named Tel Yehushua was injured, after which the pellets were removed from her body. The driver of the vehicle who was driving was also injured with this woman. The incident in New Delhi occurred on 13 February 2012, in which the bomb was already fitted with the help of a magnet in the car.
What is the whole incident
The incident of the attack in New Delhi could not be solved till now nor did India ever tell Iran’s hand is behind it. News reports at the time said that Tehran was attacked by Iran in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan. Syed Mohammad Ahmed Kazmi, an Indian journalist, was arrested on March 6 that year and was charged with carrying out the attack and being part of a conspiracy under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was released on bail by the Supreme Court in October on the condition that he could not go abroad.
According to the news report at the time, Delhi Police had alleged that the journalist had helped in reconnaissance for the car attack. The 5 men who attacked the Israeli diplomat’s car were members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard. However, despite his identity, the Delhi Police did not arrest him.
