Heavy rain forecast for 7 districts of Uttarakhand; orange alert issued

There is a possibility of very heavy rains in seven districts of the state including Dehradun on Sunday. According to Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Center, most of the districts are likely to receive rain on August 9. During this, Orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rains in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts. On the other hand, PWD’s chief engineer Hariom Sharma said that 88 roads are closed in the state due to rain. 215 machines have been installed to open the roads.

50 pilgrims returning from Kedarnath stranded

At around 7 am, the Kedarnath trek route was damaged due to heavy landslides five hundred meters away from Gaurikund. Due to heavy stones and debris falling from the hill, the road was completely closed. The blocking of the road was reported to the administration and police officers posted at Sonprayag at 10 am, after which the registration of passengers going to Kedarnath was stopped.

More than 70 passengers have been stopped in Sonprayag, who have not been registered. It was reported that 50 passengers returning from Kedarnath after darshan were also stranded. They are being rescued by the DDRF team with the help of ropes. Here, Executive Engineer of DDMA-PWD Guptkashi, Praveen Karnwal said that due to heavy landslides, the trekking route has been damaged. By Sunday afternoon the road will be repaired and opened for the journey.
