Red alert issued as heavy rains lash Mumbai

The situation has become worrisome due to continuous heavy rains and thunderstorms in Mumbai. In many places there is traffic jam due to water logging. Waterlogging has taken place at many places in South Mumbai as well. Red alert has been declared in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.

It is being told that in Koloba, Mumbai, the wind speed has been recorded at 106 km per hour. Heavy rains in Mumbai have created a cyclone-like situation. In view of this, NDRF teams have been deployed in many areas.

A case of wall and house collapses has come up at 6 places, while there have been complaints of falling trees at 141 places. Although there has been no loss of life. The harbor line between CSMT to Kurla (Central Railway) and CSMT to Vashi has been closed.

The weather department has also predicted heavy rains in Mumbai on Thursday. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray reviewed the situation after heavy rains in Mumbai and surrounding areas. He has directed the officials to be alert and ready. Also, the CM has appealed to the people not to come out of the houses.

Four rivers are in spate due to continuous rains in Konkan. Savitri river of Maan village of Raigad is flowing above 2 meters (Danger level). 86 villagers who were stranded due to the Kaal river boom, have been shifted to a safe place.

Some houses have been damaged in Maan village tehsil. Amba and Kundalika rivers are in spate in Roha village near Mumbai-Goa highway. Both rivers are flowing above the danger mark.

Minister in Maharashtra government, Aditya Thackeray has urged people to stay at home. He wrote in his tweet- “Requesting all to remain indoors. Mumbai is lashed with high velocity winds and extremely heavy rain as we all can witness. I request all, especially journalists trying to cover this to remain safe. Stay put wherever you are”.
