Ashwin’s hundred places team India in drivers seat of second test

Today is the third day of the second Test match of the series being played between India and England in Chennai. India had scored 329 runs in the first innings. In response, England’s entire team was bundled out for 134 runs. India got a lead of 195 runs. R Ashwin was the most successful bowler from India. He took 5 wickets. In the second innings, India has scored 264 runs after losing 9 wickets.

In the second innings, India got another blow as Cheteshwar Pujara who was run out on the score of 7 runs. India lost the second and third wicket of the day as Rohit Sharma, who was stumped by 26 runs off the ball of Jack Leach. India’s fourth wicket fell in the form of Rishabh Pant, who scored 8 runs and was stumped by Ben Fox for the ball of Jack Leach.

The Indian team suffered a fifth blow in the form of vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane scored 10 runs and was caught by Oli Pope off Moeen Ali. India got the sixth blow in the second innings as Axar Patel. Axar Patel scored 7 runs in the second innings of his debut Test match and was lbw out to Moeen Ali. Virat Kohli hit a half-century on the pitch which helped the spinners.

Hometown hero scores century

After two days of play, the Indian team is on the driving seat courtesy Rohit Sharma’s ton in the first innings combined with Ashwin’s five-for. Home hero Ravi Ashwin then showcased his batting prowess infront of his home crowd delighting them with a century. His contribution has insured Team India has an iron grip on the test match. If Ashwin can pick up another five-for in the second innings he would be the first Indian and just the fifth overall to claim a unique double of 10 wickets and over 100 runs in the same match.
