Rishabh Pant century powers India in fourth test

Team India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant scored an innings of 101 runs in the fourth Test match against England on Friday. This is Rishabh’s third overall Test career and his first century on Indian soil. With this, he has equaled the legendary Australian wicketkeeper batsman Adam Gilchrist in terms of centuries in Test cricket in India, England and Australia.

The first Test century was scored in England

Rishabh Pant scored his first century of Test career in the Oval Test against England in 2018. Then he had scored an innings of 114 runs. His second century came in Sydney Test against Australia in the ninth Test in 2019. He then had an unbeaten innings of 159 runs. He has now scored a third century in the 20th Test of his career.

The 23 year old southpaw completed his century by hitting a six off Joe Root’s ball and made this occasion very special. Earlier, Rishabh Pant scored centuries in Australia and England.

After scoring a century, however, Pant could not last long and was dismissed. But by the time Rishabh Pant was out, Team India had taken a 54-run lead against England out of a difficult situation.

Pant had missed the century three times

Pant has missed three centuries recently. He scored 97, unbeaten 89 and 91 runs in his last seven matches against Australia and England and missed out on a century. But this time he completed his century.

Pant scored 114 runs in the Test against England at the Oval in September 2018, which was his first century in the Test. After this, he scored an unbeaten 159 runs in the Test match played against Australia in Sydney in January 2019, which was the second century of his career.

Only three wicketkeeper batsmen have better than average Pant

Rishabh Pant has been very consistent in Test cricket despite batting aggressively. This is evidenced by his batting average. In Test cricket, the batting average of only three players is better than Pant, as a wicket-keeper who has scored at least 1000 runs. Pant has so far scored 1358 runs at an average of 45.26.

AB de Villiers of South Africa scored 2067 runs at an average of 57.41, playing as a 24 Test wicket-keeper batsman. Andy Flower has scored 4404 runs in 55 Tests at an average of 53.70. At the same time, Adam Gilchrist has scored 5570 runs at an average of 47.60.
