Covaxin found to neutralise 617 variant of Covid-19: US Chief Medical Advisor
There has been good news about the indigenous covid vaccine Covaxin amidst the devastation of the second wave of corona virus in India. This question was raised when the country was given the emergency approval of the country vaccine Covishield and Covaxin as a weapon in the war against Corona.
The White House’s chief medical adviser and America’s top epidemiologist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has claimed that Covaxin is effective in neutralizing 617 variant of Corona. Dr. Anthony said that once again the pandemic in India has become uncontrollable. The effect of the vaccine has been revealed from the data of people applying covaxin in India. Therefore, despite the difficult situation in India, vaccination can prove to be very important.
‘Covaxin’ effective against double mutants: ICMR
Earlier, on 20 April, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that Covaxin also protects against the double mutant corona variant. Based on its study, the ICMR stated that the vaccine is also effective on the Brazilian variant, the UK variant and the South African variant and provides protection against them. These variants are being blamed for the second wave of Corona virus going on in the country. Actually, data from 10 states of the country have revealed that the double mutant corona variant is the deadliest. It not only transmits rapidly, but also causes a lot of damage in a very short period of time.
What is variant 617?
B.1.617 variant is believed to be the reason for the sudden rise in Corona cases in India. The highest cases of this variant are coming to Delhi and Maharashtra.
Covaxin: 78% effective in clinical trials
In the interim clinical trial report of Covaxin’s third phase, Hyderabad-based company Bharat Biotech and ICMR had said that Covaxin is clinically 78% and 100% effective for patients severely affected by corona. The company, in its analysis, had conducted research on 87 symptoms of corona. The final report regarding the vaccine will be released in June.
