Uttarakhand suspends Kanwar yartra for second consecutive year

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with senior officials at the Secretariat regarding the Kanwar Yatra. In the meeting, there was an in-depth discussion on the occurrence of the Delta Plus variant of Covid, the possibility of a third wave of Covid and its side effects in the country and abroad. The opinion of experts in this regard was also considered.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that giving top priority to the protection of human life, it has been decided to suspend the upcoming Kanwar Yatra. Before this news was coming out that this time there will be no Kanwar Yatra in Uttarakhand. After Kumbh, the coronavirus infection spread very fast. This time too there was a fear that the coronavirus infection might spread again due to the Kanwar Yatra. Earlier, the Indian Medical Association had also said that due to Kanwar Yatra, coronavirus infection can once again increase rapidly. In such a situation, it has been decided that this time Kanwar Yatra will be suspended in Uttarakhand.

The Uttarakhand government was under pressure from the Uttar Pradesh and Haryana governments. Both these states have BJP governments. Both the states are preparing to conduct the Kanwar Yatra. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered his government officials to prepare for the conduct of Kanwar Yatra from July 25.
