Second indigenous vaccine gets emergency use approval
The country is soon going to get the third indigenously made anti-corona vaccine. Following the recommendation from the Government Expert Committee, DCGI has given emergency approval for the use of Zydus Cadila’s corona vaccine ZyCoV-D. This is the second indigenous vaccine after Covaxin. The special thing is that at present, where the presence of RNA vaccine is highest in the world, this vaccine of Zydus Cadila is the world’s first DNA-based vaccine. It can be given to people above 12 years of age. This vaccine will be given in three doses.
An expert committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) on Covid-19 considered the application of Zydus Cadila to approve Zycov-D on Thursday. It then recommended the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to allow it for emergency use.
Trial claimed at 50 centers
Zydus has claimed that it has conducted the largest trial of the vaccine in India. The vaccine was tested at more than 50 centers. If approved, it has become the world’s first DNA vaccine prepared by an Indian company.
Six vaccines approved in India
After getting approval of Zycov-D, now it will be the sixth vaccine in the country. So far, Serum Institute’s Covishield, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Russia’s Sputnik-V, America’s Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine have been approved.
Third Corona vaccine to be manufactured in India
Ahmedabad-based pharmaceutical major Zydus Candila on July 1 had sought approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use of its vaccine Zycov-D. If this vaccine is approved, it will be the third vaccine manufactured in the country. Before this, Covishield and Covaxin are being used in the country.
There are many specialties of this vaccine
Zycov-D is a vaccine developed by the Indian pharmaceutical company Zydus Cadila. This could be the country’s third indigenously manufactured vaccine after getting approval from DCGI. In many respects it is considered to be the most special. The most important thing about this vaccine is that it will be the world’s first DNA plasmid vaccine. Not only this, apart from the rest of the corona vaccines being administered in the country, three doses of ZyCov-D will need to be given.
