Corona cases on the rise again in UK

In the wake of more than 40,000 cases of corona virus infection being reported daily in the UK, the country’s health service heads have asked the government to compulsorily implement rules to wear masks and other Covid-19 prevention rules.  On Tuesday, 43,738 cases of infection were reported in Britain, while 223 patients died due to the virus, which is the highest number of deaths due to the virus in a single day since March.

The NHS Union, a member body of Britain’s National Health Service (NHS), said the winter already overburdened the health service due to seasonal flu and other diseases, so the virus could increase during the winter. There is a need to focus on ‘Plan B’ or other preparations for this.

NHS union chief executive Matthew Taylor said ‘it was time for the government to implement Plan B of its strategy without delay because without prior preparation we could face a crisis during the winter’. Also, key healthcare professionals need to understand that if these measures are inadequate, what would be ‘Plan C’?

He said it is also an important opportunity for the public to come together and show additional support for the NHS, in that they will keep themselves and others safe, so as to benefit from expanded frontline services to those in need during this time. The government should not wait for the rapid rise of the Covid infection and its pressure on NHS services and be alert before the alarm bells go off.
