Government to list crypto currency bill in winter session of Parliament

The central government on Tuesday listed a bill on digital currency ‘cryptocurrency’ in its legislative action plan prepared for the upcoming winter session of Parliament. The winter session of Parliament will begin from November 29. The bill has been named the Cryptocurrencies and Official Digital Currency Regulation Bill, 2021.

The central government had also introduced this bill for discussion during the budget session in Parliament this year. Before taking the decision to introduce the bill in Parliament regarding cryptocurrency, the central government had held several meetings regarding it. These meetings were organized to prepare the necessary framework for the use of cryptocurrencies in the country and to find solutions to the challenges related to it.

There are about 15 million users of cryptocurrencies in India

According to an estimate, there are about 15 million users of cryptocurrencies in India and their total value is more than six billion dollars. The bill seeks to prohibit all private cryptocurrencies in India barring a few. In the past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had that global participation is needed to ensure that the cryptocurrency is not misused.

Bill also listed for withdrawal of agricultural law

Along with this, the Center has also listed a bill for the withdrawal of all three agricultural laws. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the withdrawal of all three laws in the past, after farmers protested against the three agricultural laws brought by the central government for more than a year. The farmers were demanding the withdrawal of all three laws.
