Over 3.5 crore ITR’s filed for FY 2020-21 says Finance Ministry

Giving information on Saturday, the Finance Ministry said that so far more than 3.7 crore income tax returns have been filed for the financial year 2020-21. The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) is December 31, 2021. The Finance Ministry has also made a tweet related to this. In a tweet from its official Twitter handle, the Finance Ministry said that, till December 17, a total of 3,71,74,810 ITRs have been filed, out of which 6,91,338 ITRs have been filed. You can file your ITR by following some easy steps. Let us know about the complete process.

Complete process of filing ITR

To file income tax return, one has to first visit the income tax e-filing portal incometax.gov.in. Then the option of ‘Login’ has to be clicked on the portal. After this step, enter your ‘Username’, click on ‘Continue’ and enter your password. Then click on the tab of ‘e-File’ and click on the option ‘File Income Tax Return’. Now after selecting the option of ‘Assessment Year 2021-22’, click on the option of ‘Continue’. After this you will get the option of ‘Online’ or ‘Offline’. You have to proceed by clicking on the option ‘Online’.

After this, the option of ‘Individual’ will have to be selected from the given options- Individual, Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) or others. Then you have to click on the tab of ‘Continue’. After this step, you will have to go to the option of ‘Proceed’ by selecting the option of ITR-1 or ITR-4. Thereafter in the next step you will be asked the reason for filing your return above basic exemption limit or on account of seventh provision under section 139(1). You have to ensure that, you have selected the correct option while filing your ITR online.

Then you have to fill your bank details. After this a new page will open in front of you to file ITR. After this, you have to verify your ITR and send a hard copy of it to the Income Tax Department.
