Over 60 percent voter turnout in Uttarakhand assembly elections 2022

Polling for the fifth assembly in Uttarakhand was peaceful on Monday. According to the information received till late evening, 65.1 percent votes had been cast in 70 assembly seats of the state. In the 2017 assembly elections, 65.60 percent voter turnout was recorded.

In most of the seats in the state, there is a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress, while in some seats, the candidates of Independent, Aam Aadmi Party, BSP are giving a tough challenge. According to the information, till evening Haridwar district had recorded the highest voter turnout of 67.58 percent. In the 2017  Elections, 75.68 percent voting was done.

The Uttarkashi district of the mountain was second in terms of voting. Till 5 pm, 65.55 per cent votes had been cast in the district. So far, the lowest voter turnout in the state has been 50.65 percent in Almora district and 51.93 percent in Pauri. In the 2017 elections also, these two districts (Pauri 54.86 percent) and Almora (53.07 percent) had the lowest voting percentage.

Competition between BJP and Congress on most of the seats

For the first time in the Uttarakhand assembly elections of 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party had also fielded candidates on all 70 seats, but in most of the seats in the state, there has been a direct contest between the candidates of BJP and Congress. In some seats, independents are seen challenging both the national parties, while the candidates of BSP and Aam Aadmi Party are also seen giving tough competition in some seats.
