Sensex slips over 700 points; Paytm share prices fall below Rs 600

The stock market fell heavily on the second day of the week today. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex fell 709 points (1.26%) to 55,776 and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty lost 208 points (1.23%) to close at 16,663. Tata Steel fell nearly 5%.

The stock of Paytm closed down 12.7% today. It had lost 13% on Monday. Ever since its listing the stock is in downwards trajectory. Now it has reached Rs 585 and the market cap is Rs 38 thousand crores.

Sensex opened up 177 points

Today the Sensex opened up 177 points at 56,663. It formed an upper level of 56,720 and a low of 56418. Only 7 of its 30 stocks rose and 23 closed down. Among the major losers, Tech Mahindra and Kotak Bank fell up to 3%. Shares of Infosys, Reliance Industries, HCL Tech fell over 2%.

Axis Bank and PowerGrid also fell

Apart from these, Axis Bank, PowerGrid, Wipro, Dr. Reddy, IndusInd Bank, HDFC, HDFC Bank and Hindustan Unilever closed down 1 to 2%. Shares of UltraTech, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma and SBI also traded lower.

The major gainers were Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti, Nestle, Asian Paint, Titan, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv and Airtel. The market cap of the listed companies is Rs 251.58 lakh crore. Yesterday it was Rs 254.26 lakh crore.

Nifty drops 208 points

On the other hand, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed at 16,663, down 208 points. It was open at 16,900. Made an upper level of 16,927 and a lower level of 16,555.

36 stocks of Nifty fall

Out of 50 Nifty stocks, 36 are up and 14 are down. ONGC, Coal India, Hindalco, Tata Steel and JSW Steel are among the major losers. Among the gainers are Tata Consumer, Mahindra & Mahindra, Cipla and Maruti.

Earlier on Monday, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex rose 935 points (1.68%) to 56,486 and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty gained 241 points (1.45%) to close at 16,871.
