World number 1 Ash Barty annunces shocking retirement from tennis

World number one tennis player Ashleigh Barty has retired at the age of just 25. She has said goodbye to tennis with the aim of fulfilling her goals set for tennis, fatigue on foreign tours and giving maximum time to home and family. Her decision is shocking to the entire tennis world. Recently she won the Australian Open in January and she was currently at the top of her game.

Barty won a total of 15 titles in his tennis career. These include three Grand Slam titles. She won the French Open in the year 2019, Wimbledon in 2021 and the Australian Open this year. She has been at the top of the women’s tennis rankings for a total of 121 weeks. Barty said goodbye to tennis on Wednesday, sharing an emotional video on social media.

In the video Barty said, ‘My love for tennis will never end. It has been a big part of my life but now I feel that I should enjoy another part of my life as a human being and not as an athlete.’ Earlier, Barty had already announced retirement from tennis once. In 2014, when she was just 17 years old, she said goodbye to tennis due to travelling.

However, in 2016 she made a comeback and gradually she moved up the tennis rankings. To this Barty said, ‘I know I have done this before but there were other feelings at that time.’ Barty further says, ‘I am very grateful for tennis. It allowed me to pursue my dreams but I know this is the right time to move on and fulfill the rest of my dreams.’
