High temperatures add to electricity woes in Uttarakhand

The power crisis in the state is not over yet. Due to the ever-increasing heat, the demand for electricity has reached a record level. In such a situation, despite all the efforts, the Energy Corporation is not able to keep the supply smooth. Even today, there is an estimated power shortage of more than 2.5 Million Units (MU) relative to the demand in the state. In such a situation, the cut may continue in rural and industrial areas.

Electricity demand exceeds 47 million units per day

In the midst of scorching heat, the demand of electricity in the state has reached more than 47 million units per day in April itself, which usually happens in May-June. In such a situation, due to non-availability of electricity according to the demand, regular cuts are being made in rural and industrial areas. However, for the last few days, there has been some relief in the cut due to more power purchase from the market.

Earlier, where four to six hours power cuts per day were happening, it has now come down to two to three hours. Energy Corporation claims that efforts are being made not to cut at all in urban areas. Energy Corporation Managing Director Anil Kumar said that due to the increase in the price of coal, electricity has become expensive in the market. Whereas, the demand for electricity has increased significantly due to increase in summer.

Despite the purchase from the market, there is a shortage of electricity. Due to this, rural and industrial areas have to be cut. In this hour of crisis, he has appealed to the consumers to use electricity with savings.
