Root-Bairstow deny India series win in England

England won the last match of the five-match Test series by seven wickets. With this the series ended in a draw of 2-2. England had a target of 378 runs to win the match. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow scored centuries to give victory to their team.

Thanks to the brilliant centuries of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, the England team defeated Team India by 7 wickets in the Edgbaston Test. With this, the hosts led by Ben Stokes managed to draw the Test series 2-2. England achieved the record target in the fourth innings, scoring 378 runs for the loss of just three wickets. England needed 119 runs to win on the 5th day. England ended the game before lunch with Root-Bairstow’s explosive innings. In the fourth innings, Joe Root scored an unbeaten 142 and Jonny Bairstow scored 114 not out.

The Indian team lost a golden opportunity to win the Test series against England after 15 years. Earlier in the year 2007, under the leadership of Rahul Dravid, Team India won the Test series 1-0 against England. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, it was believed that Team India would at least draw the Test, but in front of England’s aggressive game, Team India could not cross the finish line.

England’s team made the most successful run chase in the fourth innings

England’s team has achieved the target of 300 or more in Test cricket for the 5th time in the history of 145 years. England’s team made the biggest run chase in its Test history against India. Earlier in 2019, they won the match against Australia in Leeds by scoring 359 runs.

Jonny Bairstow hits 12th century of Test career

England’s explosive player Jonny Bairstow scored his 12th Test career. In the first innings of Edgbaston Test too, Bairstow scored 106 runs for the team. Bairstow is only the third player from England to score centuries in both the innings against India.
