Stock Market update 23 August: Market turns green after opening in red

The market closed strongly on the second day of the trading week. The Sensex gained 257.43 points (0.44 per cent) to end at 59,031.30 while the Nifty gained 86.80 points (0.50) to end at 17,577.50. Today the stock market started on the red mark, but the day’s business progressed as the market turned from negative to positive.

Talking about the market opening, the Sensex started with a gap of 340 points. Nifty also had a rough start. It started business with a fall of about 89 points. However, with as the day progressed, the bulls strengthened their hold in the market.

Which sectors showed strength

Bank and IT stocks have performed best on Nifty in today’s trading. The PSU Bank index rose nearly 2.34 per cent today. At the same time, private bank shares rose 1.13 per cent. Apart from this, shares of auto, metal and oil and gas saw a rise of more than 1-1 per cent.

Top Gainers and Losers

Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Motor, Bajaj Finserv, Titan and Tata Steel were the top gainers on Nifty in today’s trade. Infosys, TCS, DV Lab, Hindustan Unilever and HCL Tech suffered the most.
