Neeraj Chopra becomes 1st Indian to win Diamond League Final

Neeraj Chopra created history by finishing first in the Diamond League final in Zurich on Thursday. Neeraj Chopra has become the first Indian to win the Diamond League trophy. He overtook Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic in with a  88.44m javelin throw in his second attempt.

Gold in second attempt

Neeraj’s first throw was a foul, while the second throw measured 88.44 meters, which was enough for him to win the title. Neeraj third attempt was 88 meters, fourth 86.11, fifth 87 and sixth final throw 83.6 meters. Jakub Vadlejch was the second best thrower after Neeraj.

Germany’s Julian Weber finished third with 83.73m. With this win, Neeraj won the prize money of Rs 23.98 lakh and also won the Diamond Trophy. After this all the winners, including Neeraj, were driven around the track with a diamond trophy.

Silver at the Lausanne Meet

Neeraj did not participate in the first Diamond League held in Doha and the third in Silesia. In Stockholm, he made a national record with a throw of 89.94m, but he won the silver medal here despite this distance. He won the silver in Lausanne and now he has also won the gold medal in the finals.
