All government vehicles in Uttarakhand older than 15 years to be scrapped

Government vehicles running in all government departments, corporations, bodies of Uttarakhand will become obsolete after completing 15 years of age. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification under the scrap policy seeking suggestions on this. Suggestions are being prepared on this from the government level.

In the draft notification issued by the ministry, it has been said that the scrap policy in all the central government departments, state government and its departments, municipal corporations, municipalities, transport corporations, public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies of the central government and state governments. Will come into effect from April 2023.

Under this, the government is going to fix the upper age limit of vehicles at 15 years. Vehicles whose age will complete 15 years on April 1 next year, will go straight to scrap. A draft notification has also been sent to the Uttarakhand government, on which suggestions have been sought.

Three scrap centers in every district

According to the information, the central government will open at least three scrap centers in every district to implement the scrap policy. Under this, proposals were sought from all the states, in which Uttarakhand has also sent its proposal.

Fitness of commercial vehicles mandatory from April 1

Under the scrap policy, from April 1, 2023, all types of heavy commercial vehicles will have to compulsorily undergo fitness tests, while for private vehicles, this system will be applicable from June 2024.

Ministry’s draft notification has been received regarding increasing the upper age limit of government vehicles to 15 years and after that sending them to scrap.
