The first bad habit that unknowingly keeps many people poor is the habit of not valuing time. You will want to value your time as if it is your most valuable asset. The thing about money is that we have it, want it, and work for it – but money is not one of the greatest assets to have in life.

Time is undoubtedly our greatest asset in life. Time is something that we cannot recoup. If you were to file for bankruptcy one day, you could get all the money back after a few years down the road. The same cannot be said for time, though.

You can stop cash flow, but you cannot stop the ticking of time – every second matters. Everyone gets the same amount of time every day – so you will want to think about how you will be spending your time throughout your everyday life.

When it comes to evaluating your time, you will want to establish a difference between educating yourself and self-entertainment. You will want to spend less time on entertainment and more time on educating yourself by self-learning, self-teaching, and learning different life skills.

You can start valuing your time by kick-starting your day the right way. Many people scroll mindlessly through their phones for half an hour or forty-five minutes right after waking up. Here is what happens when you start checking your phone instantly after waking up – you will start reacting to the rest of your day.

You will be reacting to text messages, replies, and Instagram DMs. This is not an ideal way to start your day. Here is what you will want to do – you will want to wake up – take a shower – work out – have breakfast, and get ready for the day.

Plan your day in advance by listing the things that you need to do based on their priority; once you have filled out everything that you need to do for the day, you will be focused on those things for the day, and instead of wasting your time, you will be making effective use of your time.

Habit #2 – Associating with the Wrong People

Have you heard the saying that you are the average of the five people you spend your time with daily? Believe it or not – but this is incredibly true. Suppose you associate with people with zero life ambitions.

What will their impact be on your life? Do you think you will be able to be ambitious about anything in life? There is a great chance that you might be the sixth loser in the room, which is not always the case. But – you will want to assess how much time you spend with the people you are closest with.

You will want to be mindful of how those people influence you and how you are influencing them. Believe it or not, the people you surround yourself with greatly influence your life more than you think.

So, if you want to truly be successful in your life, you will want to be mindful about associating yourself with the right people. If you want to be financially strong and you want to have a successful life, then you should associate yourself and surround yourself with people with similar goals and who share the same mindset.

Habit #3 – Setting the Wrong Goals

Another habit that is keeping you poor is the habit of not setting the right goals or not setting measurable goals. We are talking about daily, weekly, and monthly goals.

Have you ever wondered about the many people who set their yearly goals at the start of each year and make the resolution to reach those goals for the year – but they fail to reach them? Why is it so? Usually, two to three weeks into the New Year – people start to fizzle out to the point that they stop thinking about their goals – and then a few months later, they might think about their New Year resolution again.

Now the way to make your goals achievable is to break down those goals – not only yearly, but you will want to break them down into monthly goals, weekly goals, and even daily goals. You will be surprised to know how much more you will be able to accomplish once you start to set measurable goals.

If you can do the top three things that you have set out for yourself for a day, you will want to see this as an achievement. For instance, if your goal for this year is to run half a marathon, you will want to make this goal attainable by training for the marathon every day.

You can break down the big goal of running a marathon by breaking it down into smaller goals that you will work on every day to achieve that big goal, such as following a diet plan, working out every day, and running for half an hour at least twice a week.
