Weather update: Severe ‘Mocha’ cyclone may rise from Bay of Bengal amid rains; Meteorological Department issues warning

At present, the rainy weather is continuing in most of the states of the country. This time the month of May has started with pleasant weather. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has said that there are initial indications of a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. On Wednesday, the meteorological office said that preliminary signs of a cyclone have been detected in the southeast Bay of Bengal. In this regard, they have warned fishermen and boatmen not to venture into this area.

Director General of India Meteorological Department Mrityunjay Mahapatra also held a press conference regarding this. In this, he said that on May 9, there is a possibility of a cyclone coming from the Bay of South East Bengal. Information about its route will be given in the coming days.

He further said that a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop on May 6 with a possibility of formation of a low pressure area over the same region the next day. The director general of the department Mrityunjay Mohapatra further said that the cyclone would be called Mocha, a name suggested by Yemen after the Red Sea port city.

Mohapatra further said that the weather system has detected that the cyclone is expected to concentrate at one place on May 8 and intensify on May 9. It is also learned that the cyclone is likely to move northwards towards central Bay of Bengal. He also told that after the formation of low pressure area, we will issue details about the track of the cyclone.  The metrological department has also asked the fishermen not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal. Mohapatra said that in the event of a cyclone, there is a possibility of wind speed of 40-50 kmph in this area.
