Two-time winner West Indies lose to Scotland, fail to qualify for World Cup 2023

The West Indies team which was a dominant force in ICC Cricket World Cup after winning the first two World Cups in 1975 and 1979, is a pale shadow of its former glory. The team will not be seen in the upcoming World Cup. They are out of the running after their defeat against Scotland in the World Cup qualifying tournament. West Indies were defeated by Scotland by seven wickets in the Super Six match on Saturday (July 1). This will be the first time that West Indies will not play in the World Cup of any format.

Fans are also surprised to see this fate of the West Indies team which has produced veterans like Clive Lloyd, Vivian Richards, Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Courtney Walsh, Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Chris Gayle. West Indies lost to Scotland for the first time in ODI format.

Scotland team won the toss and decided to bowl at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. They performed brilliantly and bundled out the West Indies for 181 runs in 43.1 overs. In response, Scotland won the match by scoring 185 runs in 43.3 for the loss of three wickets. With this win, Scotland have four points from three matches in the Super Sixes. They have reached the third position. At the same time, West Indies are at fifth position after three defeats in three matches.
