Aditi Swami wins India’s first ever individual title at World Archery Championship 2023

India’s 17-year-old archer Aditi Swami has created history. Aditi became the senior world champion by defeating Andrea Becerra of Mexico in the compound women’s final of the World Archery Championships 2023. The teen from Satara won the Under-18 title at the Youth Championship in Limerick in July. She beat the Mexican player by two points in the final in Berlin with 149 points out of a possible 150 points.

Andrea, seeded 16th at the championships, defeated several heavyweights on her way to the final, including defending champion Sarah Lopez in the pre-quarterfinals. In the final, Andrea faced a tough challenge from the sixth seeded Indian player from the very beginning. Aditi’s initial three arrows hit the center of the target, giving her a 30-29 lead in the first round.

Aditi scored a total of 149 points in the final

Continuing the rhythm, she repeated this performance in the next three rounds and took a three-point lead. In the last round, she hit a target of 9 points while collecting 10-10 points from the remaining two, scoring a total of 149 points. Andrea could score 147 points. This is her second gold medal in this competition and a first for India at the individual event.

Aditi teamed up with Preneet and Jyoti to win the compound women’s team final as well

Aditi, along with Parneet Kaur and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, won India’s maiden World Archery Championships gold medal by winning the compound women’s team final on Friday.
