Women’s Uttarakhand Premier League 2023 begins, Dehradun and Haridwar face off in first match

To encourage women cricketers, Women’s Uttarakhand Premier League 2023 is being organized by the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). The league was inaugurated on Monday at Abhimanyu Cricket Stadium.

On the first day, a match was played between the teams Dehradun Queen and Haridwar Paltan. Earlier, former Sports Minister Arvind Pandey, CAU President Jot Singh Gunsola met with the players at the commencement of the tournament.

Haridwar team won the toss and decided to bowl first. Playing first under the captaincy of Ekta Bisht, the Dehradun team could core 89 runs after losing four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. For the team, Anjali Goswami scored the maximum 28 runs and Muskan Kumari scored 20 runs. Captain Ekta remained not out on the score of 13 runs.  Haridwar Paltan team, under the captaincy of Sarika Koli, set out to chase the target. The team continued the game till the last over and won the match by two wickets. Kanak scored the maximum 29 for the team. Whereas captain Sarika was out LBW after scoring 19 runs.

The second game of the league will take place on September 19 featuring teams from Nainital and Chamoli.

Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to organize such a competition to give a platform to women cricketers. In the league, women cricketers of the state are also getting a chance to play with many players of national and international level and showcase their talent. Five teams are participating in the competition. The captaincy of each team has been handed over to experienced players.
