Delhi government extends water bill waiver for citizens
The Delhi government on Tuesday extended the water bill waiver scheme by 3 months in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic. Now the period of this plan has been extended till 30 September.
In the scheme launched in August last year, all categories of households were exempted from late fee payment. Whereas, a provision was made to partially waive the outstanding water bill based on the category of houses.
Raghav Chadha, vice-president of the Public Utilities Service, tweeted, “In view of the corona virus pandemic, the Delhi Jal Board’s water bill waiver scheme has been extended for three more months and it will end on September 30.” He said that this step will benefit those people who could not take advantage of this scheme due to lockdown restrictions. It is noteworthy that the colonies of Delhi are divided into ‘A’ to ‘H’.
Colonies of ‘A’ to ‘D’ category are believed to be middle and upper middle class residential areas. The ‘A’ category includes areas like Maharani Bagh, Chanakyapuri and Golf Link. In the ‘A’ and ‘B’ category colony, 25 percent discount has been given on the original arrears while in the ‘C’ category colony 50 percent discount has been given. People living in ‘D’ category colony have been given 75 percent discount on the basic dues.
