IMD issues cyclone Michaung alert

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding cyclonic storm ‘Michaung’. IMD has expressed the possibility of a cyclonic storm in a forecast released on Thursday. According to IMD, there is a possibility of a cyclonic storm over the south-west Bay of Bengal around December 3. But its impact can reach Odisha.

Talking about the cyclonic storm, IMD scientist Umashankar Das said that ‘the path and other parameters of the possible cyclone can be predicted only after the formation of the depression. Therefore, we have not said anything about the impact on Odisha or any other place on the coast.’ He further said that there is no warning for the Odisha coast for the next four days. He said that there is no warning even for fishermen for Odisha coast.

Cyclonic storm will hit Tamil Nadu on December 4

According to IMD’s weather forecast, Tamil Nadu, which has been battling continuous rain for the last few days, is getting ready for a cyclonic storm. Cyclone ‘Michaung’ is likely to hit the coast of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on the evening of December 4. “Residents of north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall (above 204.4 mm) on December 3 and heavy to very heavy rainfall on December 4,” the IMD said in a post on Twitter.
