Schemes to encourage use of solar energy by households

The Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy and Power has informed that in order to promote development of solar energy in the country, the National Solar Mission (NSM) was launched in January 2010 under which the Government introduced various schemes from time to time. The list of schemes currently in operation to encourage use of solar energy at domestic level are given below.

  1. Solar Park Scheme for setting up of at least 50 Solar Parks targeting 40,000 MW of solar power projects.
  2. Scheme for setting up 12,000 MW of Grid-Connected Solar PV Power Projects by the Government producers with Viability Gap Funding (VGF).
  3. Installation of Grid-Connected Solar Rooftop Power Plants.
  4. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM).
  5. Production-linked incentive scheme under “National Programme on high efficiency Solar PV Modules.”
  6. Green Energy Corridor Scheme for Intra-State Transmission System.

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is implementing Phase II of the Roof Top Solar (RTS) Programme since August 2019 under which Central Financial Assistance (CFA) is provided for residential households and resident welfare associations (RWAs) / group housing societies (GHS). The CFA for rooftop solar projects up to 3 kW capacity in residential households presently provided is at Rs. 14588/- per kW. CFA for rooftop solar project capacity above 3 KW and up to 10 kW is provided at Rs. 7294/- per kW. Rooftop solar project capacity above 10 kW in residential households is not eligible for any CFA. For Group Housing Societies / Residential Welfare Associations (GHS/RWA), CFA is limited to Rs. 7294/- per kW for the installation of a Roof Top Solar (RTS) plant for the supply of power to common facilities. The capacity eligible for CFA for GHS/ RWA is limited to 10 kWp per house and not more than 500 kWp aggregate, inclusive of RTS already installed on individual houses in that GHS/ RWA at the time of installation of RTS for common activity.
