Village Rockstars- India’s entry to Oscars 2019 out of race
Village Rockstars has not got place in 9 films for the next round of voting in foreign language category. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the names of the films selected in the next round for Best Foreign Category on Monday. Rima Das has directed the Village Rockstars.

Birds of Passage (Colombia), The Guilty (Denmark), Never Look Away (Germany), Shoplifters (Japan), Ayka (Kazakhstan), Capernaum (Lebanon), Roma (Mexico), Cold War (Poland) and Burning (South Korea) Movies have reached the next round for voting in the foreign category. 87 films from all over the world were submitted in this category for the 91st Academy Awards .
In Oscars, only five films of India have been able to reach only the top five in foreign language film category, including ‘Mother India’, ‘Salaam Bombay’ and ‘Lagan: Once Upon a Time in India’.
What is the story of Village Rockstars?
The film is written, directed by Rima Das. She has kept the background of his film Chhaigaon, a small village in Assam. This is the story of 10 year old girl Dhunu who lives with her widowed mother. Dhunu helps her mother in selling snakes in the upcoming events. During this time, she sees one band performing every single day and becomes enchanted.
After that she reads the comic book and decides that she too will make a band in which the original instruments will be played. Dhunu collects money to buy guitars. During this time the floods in the village come and Dhunu’s priorities change. After this there is a deep reconciliation of hope and confidence in ourselves. The movie makes the audience emotional.
Rima Das’s movie is appreciated
This film won ‘Golden Lotus’ for Best Feature Film in the 65th National Film Awards. Later, getting entry into Oscars was a very big achievement for artists and makers. The film came in 2017, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Rima is also a producer and editor of the film.
