Govt to soon make it mandatory to link Driving License with Aadhaar

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government will soon make the driving license mandatory to link with the Aadhaar card. In his presidential address in 106th Indian Science Congress at the Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, Law and Electronics and Information Technology Minister said, “We are going to bring a law soon after which it will be mandatory to link the driving license to Aadhaar.” He said, “It is now that the wrongdoing person gets away from the spot and gets duplicate Iicenses. This helps him avoid punishment. However, after linking with Aadhaar, you cannot change the biometrics even if the person changes their name. You can not change the pupil of your eyes or fingerprints. Whenever you go for a duplicate license, the system will say that this person already has a driving license and it should not be given a new license.

While admitting the central government’s ‘Digital India’ program, the minister claimed that it has got the difference between urban and rural areas. Prasad said, “123 crore Aadhaar cards have been issued, there are 121 million mobile phones, 44.6 million smart phones, 56 million users of the internet. Apart from that, e-commerce has increased by 31 percent. India’s population is 130 million. “He also said that in 2017-18, there has been a lot of increase in digital payment in the country.”
