Opening date for Badrinath for 2026 announced on Basant Panchami
The doors of Badrinath Dham will be opened for devotees on April 23rd with due rituals and ceremonies. The date for the opening of the Badrinath Dham gates was announced today on Basant Panchami. Earlier on Thursday, members of the Dimri religious central panchayat from Dimmer left for Rishikesh with the sacred Gadu Ghada (pitcher). On Friday, the priests arrived at the Narendra Nagar royal court with the Gadu Ghada. Here, the date for the opening of the gates of Lord Badrinath Dham was announced in a traditional manner.
The gates of Lord Badrinath will be opened on April 23rd at 6:15 AM during the auspicious Brahma Muhurta. The Gadu Ghada Yatra (procession) will begin on April 7th. On Thursday morning at the Shri Lakshmi-Narayan Temple in Dimmer, the priests of Dimmer village, Tika Prasad Dimri and other acharyas, performed the Mahabhishek puja of the deity and the Gadu Ghada with Vishnu Sahasranama and other hymns, and offered prasad (food offering). After this, the Dimri priests of Badrinath Dham circumambulated the temple with the Gadu Ghada.
On Vasant Panchami morning, the Dimri priests arrived at the Narendra Nagar royal court from Rishikesh with the Gadu Ghada. There, Maharaja Manujendra Shah, after performing the Panchang puja, announced the date for the opening of the gates of Lord Badrinath, the date for the extraction of sesame oil to be used in the Mahabhishek of the deity, and the date for the Gadu Ghada oil pitcher procession.
The gates of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples will open on Akshaya Tritiya
It is noteworthy that the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples open on Akshaya Tritiya. In 2026, Akshaya Tritiya is falling on April 19. The auspicious time for the opening will be decided later in the presence of the temple committee. The date for the opening of the Kedarnath temple gates will be decided on Shivratri.
