Women lead protests against lack of water supply in Almora

Even after rain in Almora district, drinking water system is not back on track in all places. Struggling with the water crisis, the patience of people from cities to villages who are tired of running for natural water sources is waning off. In Beh and Gagil villages of Hawalbagh development block near the city, women who were suffering from water crisis for a month climbed on the tank and demanded restoration of water supply. While protesting, they said that crores of rupees were spent by claiming to provide tap water to every house but the taps in their houses have completely dried up. Their entire day is spent in arranging water.

On Monday, the women of Beh and Gagil, who have been suffering from water crisis for a long time, reached the tank of Simalkot Pumping Scheme and protested by climbing into it. They said that due to stoppage of water supply in both the villages since last one month, they are facing a lot of problems. It is serious for people not getting water in the villages near Kosi River. They further said that leaving aside all the household work, their entire time is being spent in arranging water. Giving a warning, they said that if the water supply is not improved soon, they will take the protests to the main roads.

Meanwhile, the water department said that, the line of Simalkot Pumping Scheme is being repaired under Jal Jeevan Mission. In such a situation a problem has arisen. The repair work will be completed soon and water supply will be restored.
