Stock market update 6 March: Sensex closes above 74300

On the fourth trading day of the week today i.e. Thursday (March 6), the Sensex closed at 74,340, up 609 points. Nifty gained 207 points, closing at 22,544. Metal, pharma and oil and gas stocks have gained the most.

The Nifty Metal and Oil and Gas Index has gained about 2.5%. The Pharma and FMCG index was up about 1.50%. The Auto and Media index closed up about 1%. Asian Paints, Reliance and NTPC were the top gainers of the Sensex.

Rise in Asian and American markets

In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei is up 0.77% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index is up 3.29%. China’s Shanghai Composite was up 1.17%.

On March 5, foreign investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,895 crore. During this period, domestic investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 3,370 crore.

On March 5, America’s Dow Jones closed at 43,006, up 1.14%. S&P 500 rose 1.12% and Nasdaq Composite rose 1.46%.

On Wednesday, the Sensex closed 740 points higher

On Wednesday (March 5), the third trading day of the week, the Sensex closed 740 points higher at 73,730. Nifty rose 254 points, closing at 22,337. Metal and government bank stocks rose the most.

Nifty’s metal index closed 4.04% higher. Government bank index rose 3%, media 3.14%, auto 2.60% and IT 2.13%. The realty index closed up 2.32%. The healthcare and pharma index rose by about 1.5%.
