Stock market witnesses a strong rally, Sensex, Nifty close with big gains

The stock market witnessed a strong rally today. On Monday, December 22, the market closed higher for the second consecutive trading session. The BSE Sensex closed up 638.12 points (0.75%) at 85,567.48. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty 50 index jumped 206.00 points (0.79 percent) to close at 26,172.40. It’s worth noting that Indigo (InterGlobe Aviation) was added to the BSE’s 30-share benchmark index, the Sensex, while Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles was removed. Last week, the BSE Sensex closed down 338.3 points (0.39 percent) and the Nifty 80.55 points (0.30 percent).

24 Sensex Companies’ Shares Closed in the Green

On Monday, 25 out of 30 companies in the Sensex closed higher, while Bajaj Finance shares closed unchanged. The remaining 4 companies’ shares closed lower. Similarly, 38 out of 50 companies in the Nifty 50 closed higher, while the remaining 12 companies’ shares closed lower. Among the Sensex companies, Trent, a Tata Group company, saw the biggest gain of 3.56 percent, while State Bank of India shares saw the biggest decline of 0.59 percent.

Besides these, other Sensex stocks that closed higher included Infosys (3.06%), Bharti Airtel (2.32%), Tech Mahindra (1.74%), BEL (1.57%), Sun Pharma (1.43%), HCL Tech (1.35%), Maruti Suzuki (1.32%), TCS (1.28%), ICICI Bank (1.05%), Adani Ports (0.74%), Reliance Industries (0.66%), Power Grid (0.55%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.40%), Tata Steel (0.39%), Bajaj Finserv (0.39%), Eicher Motors (0.38%), UltraTech Cement (0.36%), ITC (0.36%), NTPC (0.28%), Axis Bank (0.21%), Hindustan Unilever (0.17%), HDFC Bank (0.15%), Asian Paints (0.09%), and Titan (0.05%).
