Chardham Yatra 2024: Doors of Gangotri close for winters

The doors of the world famous Gangotri Dham were closed today on 2 November, 2024 on the occasion of Annakoot at 12:14 pm. After which Ganga’s palanquin left for Mukhwa with chants of Mother Ganga.

With the closure of the doors, now devotees from the country and abroad will be able to worship at her winter residence Mukhimath (Mukhwa). From the opening of the doors to the closing of the doors, this time more than 8.22 lakh pilgrims reached Gangotri Dham. Whereas the doors of Yamunotri Dham will be closed on Bhai Dooj on 3 November at 12:05 pm.

This season, a large number of devotees are visiting Gangotri and Yamunotri . During this Yatra period, the number of pilgrims reaching Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham till Sunday evening has reached close to 15,20,000. So far, more than 7,00,000 pilgrims have reached Yamunotri Dham and about 8.22 lakh pilgrims have reached Gangotri Dham. This time, apart from May-June, there has been a good pilgrimage from 15 September to 15 October.

5100 lamps were lit at Ganga Ghat

Gangotri temple was decorated grandly on Friday before the doors were closed. On Friday, 5100 lamps were also lit at Gangotri Dham and Ganga Ghat. Gangotri Temple Committee Secretary Suresh Semwal said that the doors of Gangotri Dham were closed on Saturday at 12:14 pm on the occasion of Annakoot. After which the procession will leave for Mukhwa.
