Four Nihang travelers arrested for attacking with a sharp-edged weapon in Karnaprayag
On June 16, a dispute arose between some Nihang pilgrims returning from the Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage and local traders near the Krishna Palace Hotel in the Karnaprayag market, following a minor verbal altercation. As per information, during the altercation, four Nihang pilgrims attacked a local trader and other locals who had intervened to mediate, leaving four people injured. Acting on a formal complaint filed by the complainant, Gajpal Singh, the Karnaprayag police registered a case and immediately initiated action.
Following the incident, the police set up a barrier and arrested three of the Nihang pilgrims within the Karnaprayag area. Two motorcycles used in the incident were taken into police custody. The fourth Nihang pilgrim involved in the incident was arrested on June 17 at the Karnaprayag hospital; the sword used in the attack was also recovered based on information provided by him. All four accused were produced in court; three were sent to the District Jail in Pursadi under judicial custody, while the fourth, who is undergoing medical treatment, has been placed in police custody.

A company comprising ITBP and PAC personnel has been deployed in the Gauchar-Karnaprayag area to maintain law and order. Karnaprayag Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Trivendra Singh Rana is camping in the area to continuously monitor the security situation. Additionally, the police are keeping a close watch on the situation through regular foot patrols. Chamoli Superintendent of Police (SP) Surjit Singh Panwar stated that no one disrupting law and order or compromising public safety in the district would be spared. Strict legal action will be taken against such unruly and anti-social elements under a zero-tolerance policy. The police have recovered four swords and two motorcycles used in the incident.
