Long queues of vehicles has been seen at major tourist and religious places like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun and Nainital. A large number of tourists are reaching these areas on holidays and weekends, due to which there is a long jam on the highway and main road. Even a short journey like Haridwar to Rishikesh is now taking more than 2-3 hours, whereas on normal days the same distance was covered in less than an hour. Similarly, vehicles are seen crawling on the routes of Mussoorie and Nainital, causing a lot of trouble to the passengers. Many tourists have faced delays in hotel bookings, puja, darshans and other plans due to being stuck in traffic.
The administration is taking this problem seriously and implementing many types of arrangements. Shuttle service has been started between Bhowali and Kainchi Dham near Nainital so that tourists can park their vehicles and reach the temple through shuttle. A special campaign named ‘Operation Lagaam’ has been started in Dehradun with the aim of making people follow traffic rules and preventing chaos. Police and administration teams are deployed at main intersections and tourist spots to keep the traffic under control. Despite this, the traffic jam situation is not completely under control due to heavy crowd and limited road facilities.
