Schools to remain closed in Dehradun on September 16 after heavy rain alert issued

The administration has declared holiday in all public, private schools and anganwadi centers in Dehradun on September 16, 2025 after IMD forecast heavy rains for today. Capital Doon saw heavy rains throughout the night with residents waking up to lightning and thunder sounds amidst rains on Tuesday.

Half of the month of September has passed in Uttarakhand, but monsoon showers are still continuing. This phase of rain will continue today as well. Under which, it may rain especially in the districts of Kumaon division. In view of the possibility of rain, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert as a warning.

Possibility of rain in these districts: According to the Meteorological Center Dehradun, today i.e. on September 16, light to moderate rain may occur in most places of Dehradun, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Nainital districts. Showers with thunder may also occur at many places in the remaining districts.

The order stated that, ‘according to the updated weather nowcast issued on 16th September, 2025 by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun and Sachet, National Disaster Alert Portal of NDMA, a “red” alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by lightning/intensity to very intense spell of rain at some places in Dehradun district on 16th September, 2025 (till 06:21 am).

At present, in view of moderate to heavy rainfall in all areas of the district, the possibility of landslides / flash floods increases in sensitive places. Due to which any kind of untoward incident can happen. In view of disaster reduction, a one-day holiday is declared on 16.09.2025 in all educational institutions and Anganwadi centers running from class 01 to 12 in the district.’

Schools will remain closed in 3 tehsils of Pithoragarh district

At the same time, in view of the warning issued by the Meteorological Department, Pithoragarh District Magistrate Vinod Goswami has announced a one-day holiday on Tuesday, September 16, in Dharchula, Munsiyari and Didihat development blocks of Pithoragarh district from class 1 to 12.
