Telecom & NDMA to test mobile alerts for disaster preparedness in Dehradun today
If citizens get an alert on their mobile during or before any disaster, it can help in saving countless lives. A similar effort is being made by the Department of Telecommunications in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority. Trials are being conducted to strengthen the alert system. This alert will be issued on mobile in Dehradun area on Wednesday.
Alert will be tested in BSNL building
The alert will be tested in BSNL building located on Rajpur Road. Cell Broadcast Alert System is a state-of-the-art technology, which alerts us to all mobile numbers within a certain geographical area. This alert will be available in the form of a siren along with some messages on the mobile handset.
Its special thing is that it will also alert the passengers coming from outside on their mobile phones. So that in case of real emergency, citizens can be warned about any serious threat of disaster and they can be shown the path to rescue. Along with this, this alert will prove helpful for government agencies in managing relief and rescue operations.
