Three-day literature festival 2025 begins in Dehradun

The 7th edition of the Dehradun Literature Festival (DDLF) kicked off today at Doon International School. This year’s festival celebrates stories and ideas with the aim of encouraging curiosity and dialogue. Launched on the special occasion of Children’s Day, the festival’s theme is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – Voices of Unity,” conveying the spirit of unity through diverse ideas, expressions, and dialogue. The event began with the traditional lamp lighting by the chief guests. This was followed by an online inaugural address by renowned author Ruskin Bond. The Ruskin Bond Literary Awards were presented.

Myra Parekh was the winner in the Budding Writers category, and Ojaswi Agarwal was the runner-up. Amita Basu won the award in the Promising Writers category, while Harshit Dixit received the award in Poetry and Pratik Sakhre was declared the runner-up. The “Sound of Womenfolk Music of Uttarakhand” session beautifully presented the rich folk culture of Kumaon and the powerful voices of women.

One of the most anticipated sessions was former Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud’s special conversation with students Avneesh Singh Chauhan and Palak Tomar on “We, the Students of India.” He shared his thoughts on leadership, learning, and India’s democratic spirit. He stated that the field of law provides young people with the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to society. He also emphasized that true leadership is achieved by example, and failure should be accepted as part of the learning process.

Speaking on India’s diversity, he further stated that the confluence of ideas, cultures, and beliefs is the country’s strength. Speaking on technology, he emphasized the need for a mindset shift, bridging the digital divide, and prioritizing training so that technological advancements can benefit everyone. This year’s award, under the third edition of the “Shivani Iron Lady of the Hills Award,” was presented to Anamika at the festival.
