IMD issues red alert of heatwave for 5 days in 7 states

The temperature in most of the states of North India has reached 40 to 46 degrees. The Meteorological Department has said that similar conditions will prevail for the next 5 days in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Red alert of heat wave has been issued in these states.

8 people died due to heat wave and heat in Rajasthan on Thursday. The temperature in Barmer remained above 48 degrees for the second consecutive day. The temperature here reached 48.8 degrees. The temperature reached 53 degrees Celsius on the India-Pakistan border adjacent to Jaisalmer.

The leaves of all doctors and paramedical staff of government hospitals in Rajasthan have been cancelled. At the same time, Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration of UP has declared holiday for the students of class 9 to 12 in all the schools of Noida and Greater Noida.

Levels of water sources drop to 5 year low

According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), in the last seven days, the water level in 150 major reservoirs of India has fallen to the lowest level in five years. The water level in Yamuna river has reduced in Delhi. Water supply has been affected in many areas.

Electricity demand increased due to heat, 20% more demand in Rajasthan

According to Power Ministry data, electricity demand in India reached 237 gigawatts (GW) on Thursday. This is the highest in the season. Earlier this week it was 234 gigawatt (GW). Earlier, the maximum demand for power had been as high as 243.27 GW in September, 2023.

In Delhi this demand has reached 8 thousand MW. Similar is the situation in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Electricity consumption in Rajasthan has increased by 20%. The government said that electricity will be purchased from other states if needed.
