Karnataka government approves reservation bill in private sector for domicile residents

The Congress government of Karnataka has decided to implement reservation for Kannada people in private institutions in the state. The Siddaramaiah led cabinet has approved a bill in this regard. It has been said in this bill that 75% of the non-managerial jobs in the state and 50% reservation in managerial level jobs will be given to Kannada domicile people.

This bill was approved in the state cabinet meeting held in Bengaluru on Tuesday (July 15, 2024). According to this bill, the people employed in all the factories and offices located in the state should now be Kannadigas. According to this bill, 75% of the people of Group C and Group D (generally clerks and peons or factory workers) employed in all the offices and factories located in the state should be Kannadigas. Apart from this, according to the bill, 50% of the jobs in higher levels should be given to Kannada people.

According to the bill, any person born in Karnataka or living in Karnataka for the last 15 years will be considered a Kannadiga and will get the benefit of this reservation. To avail the benefit of Kannada reservation, a person must have passed 12th and during this time they must have Kannada as a subject. If they do not have it, then they will have to learn Kannada.

The bill also states that if it becomes necessary for companies to recruit non-Kannada people for their jobs and Kannada speakers are not available, then they can be given exemption.
