NEET-UG 2024: Supreme Court to hear over 40 petitions tomorrow

The Supreme Court will hear on Thursday (July 18) the petitions related to the controversial medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024. The exam was conducted on May 5. According to the cause list uploaded on the Supreme Court website for July 18, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra will hear more than 40 petitions. These include the petition of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

On July 11, the apex court had adjourned the hearing on other petitions, including petitions seeking cancellation of the exam, re-examination and investigation into alleged irregularities in the conduct of NEET-UG 2024, till July 18 as some parties have not yet received the responses of the Center and NTA. The bench had said that it has received a status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the progress made in the investigation into alleged irregularities in the conduct of the examination.

The Centre had denied any irregularities

In the affidavit, the Centre said that the data analysis done by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras shows that there is neither any indication of large-scale manipulation nor any advantage to a local group of candidates leading to abnormal marks.

The affidavit said that for any candidate, if it is found that they has been a beneficiary of any manipulation, the candidature of such person will be cancelled at any stage during the counselling process or even thereafter.
